Jets RB Breece Hall inactive vs. Raiders, will miss fifth straight game with quad injury

Breece Hall is sitting out again. The New York Jets ruled their running back inactive for Sunday’s Week 8 game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 1, so his quadriceps injury will cost him a fifth straight game, CBS Sports reported.

The news wasn’t a total surprise. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday morning that Hall was expected to be inactive, according to Pro Football Talk. Hall had been listed as questionable after getting in limited practice work Wednesday through Friday.

So the backfield stays in Braelon Allen’s hands for at least one more week, with Isaiah Davis behind him as the No. 2, per CBS. Allen has run 72 times for 357 yards and a touchdown as the starter, Pro Football Talk noted.

Hall wasn’t the only notable name in street clothes. The Jets’ inactive list also included first-round pick David Bailey, who had been listed as doubtful with a groin injury, along with Nahshon Wright, Tim Patrick, Joseph Ossai, Kohl Levao and Max Mitchell, SB Nation reported via Yahoo Sports. It comes a day after the Jets placed defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat on injured reserve.

As for what’s next, the Jets are reportedly hoping Hall can return in Week 9, according to CBS Sports.

Why it matters

McGraw Media’s read: two weeks of limited practice without a green light says the Jets are choosing patience over a rushed return, and that’s the right call with a lead back they’ll need for the rest of the season. Allen has kept the run game functional, and 357 yards as the fill-in starter is nothing to wave off. But the Jets’ offense looks different when Hall is the focal point, and every Sunday he sits puts more of the load on Allen and Davis. Week 9 is the next checkpoint. Until the team says otherwise, plan on Allen carrying the weight.
